Exciting news - the first bear cub confiscated in Pakistan! Maylo is fed from a bottle

Maylo, the bear cub, was confiscated from a woman on a bus, who had him in a bag!

She was smuggling him to the southern provinces, where he would have ended up either used in bear baiting events or trained as a dancing bear.

He is now safe and sound in the Pakistan sanctuary, and is a real live wire
(Phil and Victor have the scars to prove it!)

Two more cubs have since been rescued and there are now three rescued bear cubs at the Pakistan Santuary.

October bear rescue in China : Report from Jill Robinson

vets take care of the new arrivals at the Rescue centre Just this weekend the thirtieth bear farm was closed down by the government of Sichuan Province and all six bears arrived at our Rescue Centre.

Their condition was shocking. As the truck came through the gates, rusting cages containing frightened, bone thin animals passed in front of our eyes. Boris and his staff carefully offloaded the cages whilst the rest of the team assessed the condition of the bears inside. One by one we counted 5 of the 6 bears missing limbs, one without an eye and 2 with dirty metal catheters protruding from their abdomens. Their recovery has just begun and we can only hope that all will survive...

Recovered bears play in their new home All being well, in a few short months these animals will follow in the pawprints of our 58 bears recovering at the centre. Just last week we watched with tears in our eyes as no less than 10 bears played together in the rain; frolicking on wet grass and digging for roots in the softground.

Our grateful thanks for your faith, help and support towards closing down the farms - and bringing these new bears home.
